US Tour Begins in April
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Santa Monica , CA---Kin Kou Records, a unit of the Savoy Label Group (SLG), is excited to announce the PBS debut of internationally beloved composer/instrumentalist Andreas Vollenweider with the airing of his television special "THE MAGICAL JOURNEYS OF ANDREAS VOLLENWEIDER" throughout the March PBS pledge drive. The special is a musical travelogue filmed around the world featuring the Grammy winning artist as well as renowned guest artists including Carly Simon, Milton Nascimento, David Lindley and many others. The special consists of concert programs filmed in exotic and interesting locales in Europe, America and Asia INCLUDING Andreas' breakthrough performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Performances at the Rockpalast-Festival in Berlin, Tokyo's NHK Hall, the town square of Zurich Switzerland where Andreas performed as part of the 70th birthday celebration for the Dali Lama are also showcased in "The Magical Journeys..."
Hot on the heels of the PBS program, Andreas will make his long-awaited return to the US with his full band for a national tour kicking off this April in Mesa, Arizona. The complete tour schedule is as follows: 4/18 Mesa, AZ (Ikeda Theater); 4/21 Carmel, CA (Sunset Center); 4/22 San Rafael, CA (Marin Center); 4/23 Los Angeles, CA (Avalon); 4/26 Portland, OR (Aladdin Theater); 4/27-30 Seattle, WA (Jazz Alley-2 shows/night); 5/2 Annapolis, MD (Rams Head Tavern); 5/3+4 Vienna, VA (The Barns @ Wolf Trap); 5/5 Glenside, PA (Keswick Theater); 5/6 Huntington, NY (Inter-Media Art Center); 5/7 Boston, MA (Scullers Jazz Club-2 shows); 5/8 Harrison, PA (Whitaker Center); 5/9 New York, NY (BB King Blues Club).
Concurrent with the tour in April, Kin Kou will release a companion CD soundtrack to "The Magical Journeys of Vollenweider." Also available will be a DVD of the PBS program which will include over three additional hours of bonus material.
Vollenweider has long been lauded for his distinctive musical talent and inventiveness. He took up the harp as his instrument of choice and in the early 1970's invented the first electro-acoustic harp. Since the release of his debut album, "Eine Art Suite XIII Teilen" in 1979, the acclaimed harpist has sold over 20 million records worldwide, earned 5 multi-platinum awards in the US alone and is a Grammy Award winner. He had two chart topping releases in 2005, his greatest hits retrospective 'Magic Harp' and his all new Dualdisc release 'Vox'.
